The Brief
Northstar Motel wanted to refresh their logo design, to modernise it.
They then wanted to apply this to a new website design.

They offer affordable, quality motel accommodation, close to all of Oamaru’s shops and activities.
About the Area
Oamaru is just one of the many gems in the South Island of New Zealand.
The South Island’s largest cities are Christchurch and Dunedin, with many smaller towns such as Oamaru, creating a generally rural atmosphere.
The South Island is home to around a quarter of the total New Zealand population. The South Island’s landscape is dominated by the Southern Alps, a majestic mountain range which stretches from north to south.
The Oamaru Blue Penguin Colony is home to the world’s smallest penguins in their natural environment. The colony nest is within walking distance of the town centre of Oamaru, under the cliffs in the harbour.

Logo Design Refresh
I was asked to refresh the logo design to modernise it.
The hotel had been refurbished and the client wanted to refresh the brand as part of the refurb.
I wanted to keep things simple but effective.
I kept the logo simple but also had the option of the logo being used as an icon too. This also led me to design patterns using elements of the logo.
These were used on the website, breaking up the large areas of colour blocks.
The website needed to be updated too. I designed a facelift for the website which gave it a more modern and appealing feel.
